Balancing the Scales: AI in Recruitment vs. the Human Touch

In an era dominated by technological advancements, the recruitment landscape is undergoing a significant transformation. Recruiters and employers are increasingly turning to artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline the hiring process. However, the question arises – is the reliance on AI truly the way forward?

The Rise of AI in Recruitment

The use of AI in recruitment is on the rise, with candidates being subjected to assessments that often lack the human touch. Blank screens, five short questions, and no face-to-face interaction have become the norm. While AI undoubtedly brings efficiency to the hiring process, it raises concerns about the depth of understanding it can achieve about a candidate.

“The Whites of Our Candidate’s Eyes”

At Link Recruitment, we hold firm to the belief that the essence of a candidate goes beyond the confines of a digital questionnaire. The traditional, “old-fashioned” method of engaging with candidates face-to-face, observing their expressions, and delving into conversational interviews allows us to see “the whites of our candidate’s eyes.” This intimate interaction reveals more than just technical skills; it unveils the person behind the CV.

The Human Element: Uncovering Hidden Gems

In our perspective, true greatness in a candidate is not solely defined by skills and experience. Attitude, personality, and a myriad of personal attributes contribute to a candidate’s overall fit within an organisation. Unlike skills, which can be learned, one’s inherent nature and character cannot be easily replicated. It’s during a conversational interview that we uncover the nuances – the likes, dislikes, and hidden talents that may not be evident on paper.

Redirecting Careers for the Better

One of the most rewarding aspects of human-centric recruitment is the ability to redirect careers for the better. At Link Recruitment, we’ve encountered instances where a candidate initially interviewed for a specific role turned out to be better suited for an entirely different line of work. By embracing the holistic view of a person, we have successfully placed individuals in roles that align not just with their skills but also with their passions and aspirations.

Recruitment is About People

After 23 incredible years in business, we have made the decision to retire and will be closing Link Recruitment at the end of November 2024.

We want to extend our deepest thanks to all our amazing staff, clients, suppliers, schools, colleges, employability experts and networking friends who have collaborated with us, and for the relationships we have built over the years. It has been a pleasure getting to know you and working together.
