Short overview of your career journey after school I moved to the UK after Uni and my first job in Carlisle was in a bar, I then went to be a sales assistant in a department store, next I went into telesales and after that, I joined a recruitment agency as a consultant I stayed there for 10 years and then left to set up my own Recruitment business with my colleague Karen.

What do you love about your job? The Variety, flexibility and the satisfaction of knowing you are helping people further their career.
What piece of advice would you give to young people about finding their best next step? Attitude and manners are more important than high grades, you can succeed in life even if you struggle at school.
What 3 skills do you think have helped you to be successful in your job? Communication skills, determination, and resilience (sometimes it is very, very hard work)
What advice would you give to someone considering working in your sector? Be prepared to work hard, remember this is a people business so be kind and considerate
What is the best piece of advice you have been given that has helped you on your career journey? Don’t take things too personally you won’t win at everything. You will fail sometimes but that is ok at least you tried, move on!

Administrator for a construction company. Worked for a manufacturing company for 15 years from figurine painter to production manager. Moved into recruitment.

What do you love about your job? Meeting people from lots of different backgrounds. Helping candidates to find a job they love. Helping Clients find candidates to help them join their business. I am also very proud to have jointly ran my company for 23 years.
What piece of advice would you give to young people about finding their best next step? Don’t be frightened to try different things out of your comfort zone. This is a great way to learn new skills and find out a bit more about yourself. Your first job does not have to be a job for life.
What 3 skills do you think have helped you to be successful in your job? I am very organised with great communication skills. I have worked hard to get where I am.
What advice would you give to someone considering working in your sector? Be prepared to work hard, listen to advice from experienced professional recruiters and always remember to treat every person you meet with respect and courtesy.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given that has helped you on your career journey? You can do it. Don’t give up.
